300 th anniversary of Henry Hudson discovery of Hudson River, USA in the "Halve Maen" and
100 th anniversary of Robert Fulton's first successful paddlewheel steamer "Clermont".
- In 1909, for this celebration, The Netherlands gifted the US with a replica of the ship that sailed into New York's bay 300 years earlier. The Halve Maen ( Half Moon ) (1609). Captained by Henry Hudson, a Dutch East India Company ship that sailed into what is now New York harbor in September 1609. It was commissioned by the Dutch Republic to covertly find an eastern passage to China
