Offered for sale is an ornate sterling silver Gilt 3 Piece Dessert Set by Francis Higgins of London in 1896 . The set is covered in a chased vine pattern made to the highest standaards in the world. Francis Higgins, London silver maker, was born in 1818 and died in 1908. Francis Higgins & Son rose to great prominence in the silver trade for the quality and ingenuity of their work as specialist spoon and fork makers. They first produced this pattern for the Great Exhibition of 1851. It is now recognized as one of the most extraordinary silver flatware patterns in the world. The high quality of his work is reflected by the fact that most of it was sold retail by Garrards and Hunt & Roskell, both royal jewelers. This beautiful set is in its original fitted presentation box. It is an heirloom piece ready to be passed too the next generation. A perfect wedding cake knife, large fork and grape scissors.
