Offered for sale is a scarce Italian Maiolica Albarello, 16th Century. Painted in Historiato style with huge centrall scroll inscribed " Bals Locatell". At the bottom it bears the signature ( underglaze) of Luca Cambiaso also known as Luchetto da Genova, genoese, 1527-1585. Manufactured in Urbino - according to William Chaffers, see Collector's Handbook of Marks and Moonograms on Pottery and Porcelain, London, 1972, page 8. According to Dr. Graesse and E. Jaennicke this outstanding Renascimento Albarello was manufactured in Castel Durante - see " Les Marques des porcelaines, faiences et poteries d'Europe et Extreme Orient, Paris, Les Editions de l'Amateur, pages 104 and 118. The colors are light blue with dark cinaber design over light grey background. It is H 7.5" and diameter 5 .25". Excellent condition except small glaze chips on the rim, about 3 x 1.5 mm. Guaranteed genuine.
